ACTORS’
PLAYHOUSE INVITES FLORIDA AUTHORS TO SUBMIT
NEW PLAYS AND SMALL MUSICALS PAGE TO STAGE |
Actors’
Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre is pleased to announce
that it is now accepting new play and small musical
submissions to be considered for a special staged
reading presentation in June 2012. The Page To Stage
Competition was initiated in 2008 to develop two new
plays for Mainstage presentations in South Florida.
This year the theatre is seeking new play and new
small musical submissions.
Dedicated
to support the creation of new theatre work and provide
collaborative opportunities with Florida–based
playwrights, Actors’ Playhouse will again present
a weekend of new plays and musicals at the Miracle
Theatre in June 2012 sponsored by Funding Arts Network.
Winners will be selected by a panel of industry professionals
from the South Florida theatre community under the
leadership of Artistic Director David Arisco.
In
the past five years Actors’ Playhouse has presented
world premieres of Florida playwrights and composers
in their Mainstage season. Michael McKeever’s
play Unreasonable Doubt
was presented at the Miracle Theatre in May of 2010
and was nominated for Best New Work by the Carbonell
Committee in 2011. Christopher Demos Brown’s
play When The Sun Shone Brighter
was presented at Florida Stage in 2010 and won the
Best New Work Carbonell Award in 2011. Other world
premiere productions produced by Actors’ Playhouse
are The Boy From Russia
by South Florida playwright Susie Westfall in 2008,
Bombshells The Musical
with music, lyrics and book by local playwright Jeanette
Hopkins in 2009, The Color of Desire
in 2010 by Pulitzer Prize playwright Nilo Cruz, and
the musical See Jane Run!
in 2011 by Maribeth Graham and Dana P. Rowe. In 2012
Actors’ Playhouse will present the world premiere
musical Real Men Sing Show Tunes and Play
With Puppets with book, music and lyrics
by Paul Louis and Nick Santa Maria.
