ACTORS’ PLAYHOUSE INVITES FLORIDA AUTHORS TO SUBMIT
NEW PLAYS AND SMALL MUSICALS PAGE TO STAGE
Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre is pleased to announce that it is now accepting new play and small musical submissions to be considered for a special staged reading presentation in June 2012. The Page To Stage Competition was initiated in 2008 to develop two new plays for Mainstage presentations in South Florida. This year the theatre is seeking new play and new small musical submissions.
Dedicated to support the creation of new theatre work and provide collaborative opportunities with Florida–based playwrights, Actors’ Playhouse will again present a weekend of new plays and musicals at the Miracle Theatre in June 2012 sponsored by Funding Arts Network. Winners will be selected by a panel of industry professionals from the South Florida theatre community under the leadership of Artistic Director David Arisco.
In the past five years Actors’ Playhouse has presented world premieres of Florida playwrights and composers in their Mainstage season. Michael McKeever’s play Unreasonable Doubt was presented at the Miracle Theatre in May of 2010 and was nominated for Best New Work by the Carbonell Committee in 2011. Christopher Demos Brown’s play When The Sun Shone Brighter was presented at Florida Stage in 2010 and won the Best New Work Carbonell Award in 2011. Other world premiere productions produced by Actors’ Playhouse are The Boy From Russia by South Florida playwright Susie Westfall in 2008, Bombshells The Musical with music, lyrics and book by local playwright Jeanette Hopkins in 2009, The Color of Desire in 2010 by Pulitzer Prize playwright Nilo Cruz, and the musical See Jane Run! in 2011 by Maribeth Graham and Dana P. Rowe. In 2012 Actors’ Playhouse will present the world premiere musical Real Men Sing Show Tunes and Play With Puppets with book, music and lyrics by Paul Louis and Nick Santa Maria.
Competition Rules and Guidelines For Plays and Small Musicals

1. This competition is limited to playwrights with full or part time residency in Florida.

2. Plays and small musicals should be of a suitable length for a full evening performance and require 6 actors or less.

3. Musicals shall be submitted with a full libretto (script and lyrics) and a CD containing at least one third of the musical numbers. CD’s do not need to be professionally produced. If the musical is chosen, a piano/conductor score will need to be made available for the reading.

4. All entries must be original, unpublished works that have not been previously produced.

5. An official entry form must accompany each entry, with a limit of two submissions by one author.

6. Please indicate if you are resubmitting a play previously submitted or sent to Actors’ Playhouse for review on another occasion.

7. If you would like your entry to be returned to you, please include a self addressed stamped envelope with your submission packet.

8. Scripts must be typed on white, numbered 8 ½” X 11” paper, in a font no smaller than 12pts. Applicant’s name and contact information may appear on a separate cover sheet and nowhere else in the work. Do NOT bind materials.

9. All submissions must be postmarked by February 1, 2012.

10. Electronic submissions will not be accepted. Hard copies only.
