Mainstage Theatre:
Actors’ Playhouse produces six Mainstage productions each year featuring musicals and plays. We produce our shows with Equity (union) actors in an agreement with Actors’ Equity Association New York, the union for professional stage actors. Our artistic excellence has earned us many Carbonell Awards (South Florida Tony) for artistic excellence.
Musical Theatre For Young Audiences:
The Musical Theatre for Young Audiences series, featuring musical plays for children presented by professional adult actors, serves more than 60,000 children each year. A free ticket program for minority and disadvantaged children benefits 7,000 at risk children. Each of our productions meet the guidelines of Florida State Standards, and most are based on popular children’s literature. Study guides for each show are available online and after each performance the director and the actors hold a Q&A with the audience. By engaging young people ages three to twelve in our children’s theatre program, we are developing future supporters of the arts and future community leaders.

The Annual Kids Fest Family Weekend:
Our annual festival continues to bring South Florida families a celebration of multicultural theatrical presentations, hands-on activities, theatre workshops in acting and design, and an opportunity to explore the arts with their families in a theatre setting. The festival also provides cultural tourism benefits by attracting children’s theatre fans to Miami from other communities.

Educational Outreach:
Partnerships with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, private schools and home schools, provide educational resources for students and teachers, including educator workshops, extensive study guides, theatre field trips, backstage dialogues with actors and other theatre professionals, and programs in which theatre techniques are used to help children develop self-confidence, effective communications, and a better understanding of life’s skills in general. Actors’ Playhouse also sponsors the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Disabilities annual talent show by providing our director and technical support for the event. In addition, our Musical Miracles youth group rehearses and performs with challenged clients in the City’s program to create a talent showcase. This experience emphasizes positive attitudes and an understanding of how individuals can work together to overcome difficulties.
Our new Sensory Friendly Program presented under the umbrella of Miami-Dade County’s “All Kids Considered” program, offers exclusive Children’s Theatre productions for children with autism and other sensory disorders and their families. Presentations at reduced prices are offered for Saturday matinees and weekday school field trips. The special performances will be presented during each of our five children’s season musicals.
Our programs for at-risk students give special attention to middle and high school students. Participating young people attend free performances of productions based on themes relating to social issues, followed by frank discussions of these issues with classmates and theatre professionals. Other performance-related activities provide opportunities for practical learning in acting, music, choreography, set design and related fields, guiding students to potential employment and enhanced self-awareness, all taught by experienced professionals. Actors Playhouse staff members conduct in-school programs, working with young people throughout the school year. We are pleased to collaborate with our sponsoring partners to develop outreach programs with their choice of agencies.

Actors’ Playhouse Theatre Conservatory:
The conservatory hosts a year-round schedule of courses and workshops in subjects such as acting, script writing, stage and camera techniques, film, speech, movement and vocal technique for children, teens, and adults. Experienced professionals with theatre degrees are instructors for our programs. Classes are affordable and limited in size to offer the maximum development with a planned curriculum to guide individuals through many years of training. Our popular summer programming offering camp for children and teens also includes an advanced musical theatre experience for talented youth who audition to work in our summer professional musical and in their own Broadway Jr. production.
Over 120 children participate in our many camp summer programs each year. Annual internships are offered in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the New World School of the Arts, the University of Miami Communications and Business Schools and the Musical Theatre Degree program, and Florida International University, providing students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and credentials in professional theatre, both administratively and artistically.

Young Talent Big Dreams:
The fourth annual countywide talent contest for children 8 to 17 is presented by The Children’s Trust and will take place January-April 2014. The contest develops exceptional talent among young people to accelerate arts careers and other important interpersonal skills. Auditions take place in six county arts centers with over 500 children competing in nine arts categories. Finalists from each location compete in the semi finals at the Miracle Theatre, and winners of the semi finals compete in the finals. Industry judges choose one winner in each category and one grand prizewinner. Winners receive scholarship cash prizes, master classes from leading arts professionals, passes to arts venues and local attractions, and many performance opportunities in the community.

The Musical Miracles:
This group is a talented troupe of youth who audition to be part of a year-round intensive musical training program under the direction of our Children’s Theatre Director. The children gain experiences developing careers in musical theatre, admittance into magnet schools, casting in television commercials, and as performers in productions demanding youth actors at Actors’ Playhouse. We are a one-of-a-kind experience in the regional theatre for young actors with many of our alumnae developing prosperous performance careers in national tours and on Broadway.

ONSTAGE for Young Professionals:
Actors’ Playhouse has initiated a new arm of its organization for professionals 40 years of age and under. Our goal is to create theatre patrons of a younger generation, future funding supporters and board leaders. By creating membership and volunteer opportunities at a 50% discount ticket price, the group engages in cultural activities and theatre experiences with an opportunity to network and socialize with other like individuals.

The Film Series:
Actors’ Playhouse will present its first free film series presenting magnificent films with live theatre. Films will be presented at 11:30pm on Saturday night to attract a young crowd and 5 and 7pm on Sundays. Each film will be paired with our Mainstage productions making a rich cultural experience for our audiences.

Annuall Reach For The Stars Gala Auction – April
Actors’ Playhouse Gala Auction attracts 600 guests at the Miracle Theatre each year who come together for an exciting evening of fine dinning provided by 35 Coral Gables restaurant tasting stations, an open Bacardi Bar, and the chance to bid on exciting high end silent and live auction items. This major fund raising event for the organization is considered the “signature event of the year!”
